STRATEGIES

A new point of view for tricky situations

HOW DO YOU START A PROGRAM?

It takes planning and organization to start a program. Plan according to your clients/patients by consulting your Client Service Plans, Patient History etc. Determine their interests, abilities, skills and goals before planning a program. Utilize this information while planning o give your client/patient the greatest opportunity to succeed.

HOW DO YOU GET A CLIENT INVOLVED IN A PROGRAM OR ACTIVITY?

If the client shows little to no interest in your program, it may not be the right fit. Try finding an activity that would best suit their interests.

If the activity is a recommendation or is mandatory for client participation, try alternative approaches. If the client refuses to participate with you, ask a fellow team member to approach the client from a different angle. Different diagnoses may alter how a client chooses to engage in programs; find the best approach for each client.

HOW DO I ENGAGE CLIENTS DURING THE PROGRAM?

Engaging clients is all about your presentation of the program or activity. Clients tend to mirror the facilitator's enthusiasm and will feed off of their energy. Be positive, encouraging and engaging with your clients and they will be more inclined to fully participate.
