How we got here...

The first of what I hope is many successful posts. This blog started as a school project; I was trying to prove a point. As a Recreation Therapy student, it was important for me to know that when I left and got my diploma, I would have a job. A fantastic, well paying, engaging and purposeful job. And for my mom to know I didn't move far, far away from home for nothing. I also realized that most of my friends and family had absolutely zero idea what it is what I was falling in love with.

Recreation Therapy is my passion. It took me a Bachelor's degree worth of time to realize that I was in the wrong program (although I don't necessarily regret my Phys. Ed & Health degree). But after another 2 years of education, my family still had no idea what Recreation Therapy was, so I took advantage of my Issues and Trends project to raise awareness.

Part 1: Recreation Awareness Project. We promoted via Rec based booths in the College lobby. I took full advantage of the 'I'll do it for free stuff' mentality of students. With donations in hand from the College, I offered a swag bag of goodies to two lucky students. The catch? Follow our Instagram page. Within the 2 hours in the lobby of our small College, we got over 100 followers. The next day, they were still kicking around And the number just kept increasing with every post. Today, we have 259 followers. Tomorrow there will be more (I hope).

Part 2: Prove to the world that no one knows what the heck Recreation Therapy is; then change that!. I did a study and survey of how people of all ages, demographics, and professions would want to receive information regarding Recreation Therapy and it's benefits. The answer? Social Media and a website. So here we are. Our Instagram page is getting some notice, and now a website.

Why is all of this relevant to my journey? Well, I knew from the moment I started this career path, the first day of my diploma program, that I would crave more. I always have. I am not content doing the moderate, the minimal, the basics. I need MORE! When I started my final internship with a very POWERFUL and MOTIVATIONAL woman, I knew that she would inspire me to reach for the stars.

Before I graduated, I interviewed with the job I currently have (obviously I was successful). I was also offered a position with the College; just a short little grant job, but it got these wheel turning. I'm 23 years old, working for a government municipality in my field of choice, glowing recommendations, being offered grants and projects.

I am destined to do MORE for this field than just Bingo and shuffleboard.

So here I am. Writing my first blog post, on my new website, promoting myself and my Instagram (which, you should be following by now...just saying) all while staying semi-anonymous (for now I guess) and I feel like I will grow this little passion project into something BIG.

Just you watch...

Welcome Back...

It feels like a lifetime ago that I started this website, made an attempt at a blogging career or even spent time working on my own...

I have SO MANY EMOTIONS

I have to start off with the forever repetitious "I'm sorry I haven't posted in forever. Blah Blah Blah".... Okay. So now that I got that...

New Normal

So I have started this post about 7-8 times and every time I have deleted it. I just can't find the words to express myself. But I think...
