"New Year, New Me" "Time for New Year Resolutions!!"
These are things we hear from December 31st until January...5th?7th? MAX the 20th of the first month into each new year.
Every year, we tell our selves we are going to change something. Be 'better'. Be 'new'.
Well, what the hell is wrong with the current/old you? (Pardon my French).
I absolutely hate the concept that every December 31st we look at our friends and family and tell them "I do not want to continue (Insert habit here). I will be quitting and starting (Insert replacement obsessive habit here) in the new year. New Year; New Me!! This past year was (Insert vague negative word here) !!"
Well, if your attitude going into the next year is solely derived from the negative experiences of the previous year, the chances are high that you will continue to adopt negative behaviours, or attitudes. How many GOOD things happened in the last year that you are overlooking because of the minimal amount of negative experiences?
I first would like to challenge you to think of the POSITIVE and GOOD things that have happened over the course of 2019 and make your New Years Resolution more positive.
"Work was so terrible in 2019" --> "I am proud to have a source of income as well as contribute to my economy, I enjoy the things I do daily"
"I gained to much weight in 2019. I need to go on a diet" --> "I enjoyed the time with family and friends going for dinner. In 2020, I will find more active things for us to do and spend time together!"
"Last year someone special in my life passed away" --> "I am so appreciative of all of the people that will be with me in this upcoming year"
For me, I realized how much I enjoy being organized and found support tools to help me be more organized in the next year, for both the personal and professional aspects of my life. I have challenged myself to track my moods, sleep, daily goals and tasks as well as other aspects of my life in a journal. In addition, I will be writing 1 (one) word EVERY DAY for the duration of 2020. Each day, I will choose and write a word that describes my day, whether that be a mood, an activity, place, feeling or other' the challenge is that I cannot repeat a word more than once per month. At the end of 2020, I will be able to see and reflect on each day or my year and find the positive days.
So....What are you challenging yourself to in 2020? Comment below what you would like to try or have already started.
Remember, 5 days down, only 361 days to go (It's a leap year; so 1 extra day of AWESOME!)
